Gary Neville reacts to Alvaro Morata’s display in Chelsea v Man United
Gary Neville was impressed by Alvaro Morata's goal in Chelsea's win over Manchester United
Gary Neville lavished praise on Alvaro Morata after the striker’s fine header handed Chelsea a 1-0 win over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The Spanish striker had gone six games without a goal for the west London side as he continues to get used to life at Stamford Bridge following his transfer from Real Madrid in the summer.
After an entertaining but goalless first half on Sunday, it was Morata who gave Chelsea the lead in the 55th minute when he rose to head home Cesar Azpilicueta’s pass.
It was Morata’s seventh Premier League goal of the season as the 25-year-old enjoys a strong start to life at Stamford Bridge.
And former Manchester United defender Neville was clearly impressed by what he saw from Morata as the striker headed his side into the lead.
Speaking during Sky Sports‘ coverage of the game, Neville said: “The delivery is right from Azpilicueta. And then that final part – can he finish, can he guide it past David De Gea, a world-class goalkeeper?
“It’s a wonderful, wonderful header from Morata, it really is.”
The win left Chelsea fourth in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after nine games of the new campaign.
Chelsea get back to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to The Hawthorns to take on West Bromwich Albion.
Manchester United, meanwhile, take on Newcastle United at Old Trafford on Saturday 18 November in their next Premier League game.
