Gary Neville admits Chelsea and Manchester United need Manchester City to have a blip in form in the coming weeks in the Premier League title race.

The Citizens have built an impressive eight-point lead at the top of the table following a 10 victories and one stalemate in their opening 11 games.

Manchester City were 3-1 winners against top-six rivals Arsenal at the Etihad Stadium last weekend thanks to goals from Sergio Aguero, Kevin De Bruyne and Gabriel Jesus.

The Citizens have also beaten Liverpool 5-0 and edged to a 1-0 win against defending Premier League champions Chelsea ahead of the Manchester derby on 12 December.

Manchester United lost further ground on Pep Guardiola’s men after Alvaro Morata scored a 55th-minute winner in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over the Red Devils.

Tottenham Hotspur are level on points with Manchester United despite losing 1-0 at Old Trafford last month, while Chelsea are a further point adrift in fourth place.

While Neville refused to prematurely crown Manchester City as Premier League champions, the ex-Manchester United star admitted Antonio Conte, Mauricio Pochettino and Jose Mourinho need the Citizens to slip up in the coming weeks.

“It is a long season,” Neville told the Gary Neville podcast on Sky Sports.

“It’s too early to say Man City have won it. The others need that blip to happen quite quickly I think.”

Manchester City are looking to win their first Premier League title under Guardiola and their first since 2013-14.
