Ian Wright states his prediction for Chelsea v Man United
The Arsenal legend believes Jose Mourinho will field a Man United team looking to beat Chelsea on Sunday afternoon
Ian Wright believes Jose Mourinho will field a Manchester United team with the intention of beating Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Sunday evening.
The Red Devils will make the long trip to west London in search of a third successive win in all competitions following victories over Benfica and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Manchester United boss has been criticised for his negative approach to their games against top-six rivals Liverpool and Spurs over the past month or so
The 20-time English champions lost 4-0 to title holders Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last season on Mourinho’s first return to his former club since being sacked in December 2015.
Chelsea were also 1-0 winners against Manchester United in the FA Cup quarter-final at Stamford Bridge back in April thanks to N’Golo Kante’s winner.
Mourinho has a simmering rivalry with his Chelsea successor Antonio Conte which should add more spice to Sunday’s fixture.
Former Arsenal striker Wright is adamant that the Manchester United boss will field a team capable of beating the defending champions this weekend.
“Coming up against Chelsea, if Man United can beat them in a way fitting for him, he’d be absolutely delighted with that,” Wright told The Debate on Sky Sports. “I think he should be trying to beat them.”
Manchester United haven’t won the Premier League title since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013.
Chelsea have won the Premier League in two of the past three seasons under Mourinho and then Conte.
