Alvaro Morata sent warning about his Chelsea form ahead of festive schedule
Alvaro Morata must prove his fitness regularly for Chelsea this season, according to Danny Murphy
Danny Murphy has told Alvaro Morata that he must prove he has what it takes to cut it week in, week out in the Premier League for Chelsea.
The Spanish forward has made a solid start to life at Chelsea following his big-money transfer to the west London club from Real Madrid back in July.
Morata scored the winner for the Blues when he headed home in the second half of Chelsea’s impressive 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge before the international break.
The 25-year-old scored seven goals and made three assists in his first 10 Premier League outings for Antonio Conte’s men and has seemingly shown that he has been able to adapt to the rigours of English football.
However, the games will now come thick and fast for the west London side, as the hectic festive schedule in the Premier League looms large.
And former midfielder Murphy believes that Morata must now show that he can cut it at the top level on a regular basis with Chelsea.
Writing in his column for the Evening Standard, Murphy said: “Alvaro Morata has made a great start to life at Chelsea but he needs to show he has the physical capacity to stay on the pitch week after week.
“During Morata’s spells with Real Madrid and Juventus, he was hampered by niggling injuries at different times.
“He has already had a hamstring problem since joining Chelsea, though it caused him to miss only one full game.
“The pressure on Morata to stay fit is greater because it is clear that Antonio Conte does not really trust Michy Batshuayi.”
Morata will be expecting to feature for Chelsea when the Blues travel to Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
