Antonio Conte has admitted that Chelsea face a huge task in trying to catch Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.

The Citizens have established themselves as the team to beat in the top flight this season after an incredible start to the campaign under Pep Guardiola.

Indeed, Manchester City have only once dropped points this season, with the Citizens eight points clear at the top of the Premier League table after 12 games.

Conte is aiming for his Chelsea side to try and defend their title this term but he accepts that the west London side face a difficult few weeks in trying to catch the Citizens.

The Italian manager watched his side produce an impressive performance as the Blues beat West Brom 4-0 at The Hawthorns on Saturday afternoon.

However, Conte admits that his side have some serious work to do in the race for the Premier League title this season.

Speaking at his post-match news conference, Conte said: “Now it’s very difficult to think someone can stop them [Manchester City].

“They are having a fantastic run, they have only drawn one game at home to Everton.

“It was a pity to play against them two days after playing Atletico Madrid away.

“We came back at 5 in the morning on the Thursday and played on Saturday, so sometimes whoever prepares the fixtures must pay great attention to give each team the same opportunity.

“One team was favourite and you could see if we’d won against City the difference wouldn’t have been nine points.”

Chelsea return to Champions League action on Wednesday night with a trip to Qarabag, before turning their attentions towards their crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
