Antonio Conte makes honest admission about Cesc Fabregas’ Chelsea situation
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte admits he is excited about Cesc Fabregas' improved form this season
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is pleased with the form of playmaker Cesc Fabregas, after he admitted he wanted more from the Spaniard last season.
Fabregas flitted in and out of the Chelsea side that won the Premier League title last season, with Conte opting for more solidity with N’Golo Kante and Nemanja Matic regularly taking the central midfield spots.
This season though, Fabregas has been integral to the plans of the Italian, and his display in the recent win over Man United showed he is now a vital part of Conte’s framework for the Blues.
Conte told reporters in his news conference at Cobham on Friday: “Last season maybe he didn’t deserve to start, but now he deserves to play regularly.
“At the same time I understand he needs a bit of rest because he is playing every game.
“Now I have four midfielders in good form and for sure I need to have rotation.
“I am very happy because Cesc is showing great commitment in two faces, with the ball and without the ball. Also, when we play with three midfielders, he is more free offensively.”
Fabregas is playing a more central role than he did in his time at Barcelona, but the versatile midfielder is more than able to push forward when Conte changes the team shape.
It is clear that Conte is keen to utilise the talents of Fabregas, and that the player is now one of the main players of this current Chelsea team.
Chelsea return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they host Swansea City at Stamford Bridge, as they look to keep themselves in the title race.
