Pundit names Cesc Fabregas’ weakness after star display for Chelsea v Man United
Paul Merson discusses midfielder Cesc Fabregas' main weakness at Chelsea
Paul Merson believes that Cesc Fabregas’ main weakness is his lack of quality when Chelsea are not in possession of the ball.
The 30-year-old was named as the man of the match after his sparkling performance for the west London side as the Blues claimed a vital 1-0 victory over Manchester United in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon.
Fabregas is widely regarded as one of the finest playmakers in the Premier League and he has earned plenty of praise for his performances for Chelsea in recent seasons.
However, former Arsenal star Merson believes that his work off the ball needs improving because Chelsea struggle when they are not in possession.
Speaking to Sky Sports, ex-midfielder Merson said: “I’m a massive fan of Fabregas. Fabregas is as good as anyone spreading the ball around in the Premier League.
“[But] without the ball, he is a little bit of a liability.
“Chelsea remind of Arsenal a little bit without the ball.”
Chelsea’s win over Manchester United left them in fourth place in the Premier League table and just a point behind Jose Mourinho’s men after 11 games of the new campaign.
The Blues will return to Premier League action after the international break when they take on West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.
Fabregas has scored one goal and made one assist in 10 Premier League games for Chelsea so far this season as the Blues look to try and defend their title.
