Rio Ferdinand: What I really think about Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea
Rio Ferdinand explains why he is such a big fan of Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas
Rio Ferdinand has revealed that he is a huge admirer of Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea – but warned the midfielder he won’t get much time on the ball at Liverpool on Saturday.
The 30-year-old midfielder has been in top form for Antonio Conte’s side in recent weeks and he again produced a sparkling display as he helped the west London club beat Qarabag 4-0 in the Champions League in Baku on Wednesday night.
Fabregas struggled to hold down a regular starting spot in the first team at Stamford Bridge last season but the former Arsenal captain has started 10 of Chelsea’s 12 Premier League games this term.
The midfielder, who scored a penalty against Qarabag, will be expecting to start for Chelsea when the Blues take on Liverpool at Anfield in the Premier League on Saturday.
And although Manchester United legend Ferdinand is a keen admirer of Fabregas, he admits that he will have to make the most of his reduced time on the ball agains the Reds.
Speaking to BT Sport on Wednesday night, Ferdinand said: “This weekend Chelsea are going to play against Liverpool – and they won’t give Fabregas the time he had today [against Qarabag].
“He won’t get that at Liverpool, and that’s the difference.
“But give him time, and he’s as good as anyone at putting the ball on a sixpence and creating an opportunity on goal.”
Chelsea head into their clash with Liverpool in third place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new season.
