Tiemoue Bakayoko: Chelsea have failed if this doesn’t happen
Tiemoue Bakayoko claims it would be considered a failure for Chelsea not to win the Champions League this season
Tiemoue Bakayoko has claimed that it would be considered as a “failure” for Chelsea not to win the Champions League this season.
The French midfielder has been settling into life at Stamford Bridge since signing for the Blues from Monaco in the summer transfer window.
Bakayoko has been holding down a regular spot in the first team at Chelsea in recent weeks as he bids to help the west London side challenge for honours on multiple fronts.
Chelsea will look to try and challenge for the Champions League trophy this season after missing out on a place in Europe altogether last term.
And midfielder Bakayoko has set the standards high for the Blues as he discussed their European ambitions this week.
Speaking to Chelsea’s website before the game against Qarabag on Wednesday night, Bakayoko said: “Now the aim with Chelsea is to win this competition [the Champions League].
“If you don’t win it, it’s a failure.”
Chelsea booked their place in the last 16 on Wednesday night with a 4-0 win at Qarabag.
Bakayoko will be hoping to feature for Chelsea when the Blues return to Premier League action on Saturday evening with a crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield.
The Blues, who won the title in Antonio Conte’s first campaign last term, head into the game fresh from having followed up their win over Manchester United with a victory over West Brom at The Hawthorns last weekend.
