Conte: 21-year-old and 17-year-old are the present and future of Chelsea
Antonio Conte heaps praise on Andreas Christensen following his strong performance in Chelsea's win over Manchester United
Antonio Conte has described Andreas Christensen as the “present and future” of Chelsea after his impressive performance in the Blues’ 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday.
The 21-year-old started in defence for the west London club ahead of David Luiz, who Conte had opted to drop for the game.
The Dane played the full 90 minutes as he helped Conte’s side to claim a vital victory over the Red Devils and boost their Premier League title hopes.
Christensen looks to have won the trust of manager Conte in recent games and he has made a total of eight stars in all competitions for Chelsea so far this season.
And Conte has admitted that he was delighted about the defender’s contribution after Sunday’s victory over the Red Devils, and also talked up teenager Ethan Ampadu.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the game, Conte said: “For sure, Christensen is the present and the future for Chelsea.
“But the same for Ethan Ampadu. He was on the bench against Manchester United and he’s only 17 years old. I trust a lot in these two young players.”
Chelsea’s win over Manchester United left them in fourth place in the Premier league table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 11 games of the new campaign.
The west London side are aiming to defend their title after they won the Premier League trophy in style last season.
