Antonio Conte hints at new Chelsea position for Eden Hazard
Antonio Conte discusses Eden Hazard's best position for Chelsea after the 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC
Antonio Conte has hinted that he may be ready to start deploying Eden Hazard in a more central striking role for Chelsea on a regular basis.
The Belgian playmaker has been in fine form for the west London side so far this season and he again caught the eye during the 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC at Anfield on Saturday.
Hazard missed the first few games of the season as he recovered from a serious ankle injury, but the Belgian now looks like he is hitting top form for the west London side.
The 26-year-old looked sharp in the first half against Liverpool FC on Saturday, and it was clear that he was playing in a more central role for the Blues.
And Conte has been delighted by Hazard’s form for Chelsea in recent weeks, after he appears to have developed a strong understanding with Alvaro Morata.
Speaking at his news conference after the game, Conte said: “At the start of the season it was full of trouble because he had an injury with the national team and we started the season without him.
“When you have this type of injury and you need surgery, it’s important to have the best time for your recovery.
“Eden is now in really good form. He likes to play as a striker and there is a good link with Alvaro.
“For me it’s an opportunity to play with two different systems. Against Qarabag we played with a 3-4-2-1, today with a 3-5-2, but we must not lose our identity in both cases.”
Hazard will be aiming to try and fire Chelsea to victory when they host Swansea City in the Premier League at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
The Blues are aiming to try and defend their Premier League title this season after having won the trophy under Conte last term.
