Rio Ferdinand raves about Eden Hazard after Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Qarabag
Rio Ferdinand singles out Eden Hazard for special praise for his fine display for Chelsea against Qarabag
Rio Ferdinand singled out Eden Hazard for special praise for his fine display in Chelsea’s 4-0 victory over 10-man Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
The Belgian playmaker was in superb form for the west London side and it was his pass which set Willian through on goal before the Brazilian was bundled to the ground in the penalty area.
Hazard then converted the resulting spot-kick to put the Blues in front in the 21st minute after Rashad Sadygov’s sending off.
Willian made it 2-0 in the 36th minute when he combined with Hazard again in an excellent move.
Cesc Fabregas then added more gloss to the scoreline when he slotted home his penalty in the 74th minute, and Willian added a fourth in the 85th minute with a fine finish.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand was extremely impressed by what he saw from Hazard for the Blues in Azerbaijan on Wednesday night.
Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Ferdinand said: “This ball here [for Willian by Hazard in the lead-up to the penalty].
“Not many players on the planet see, let alone play, that ball. I think it’s definitely a penalty.
“For the second goal, it’s beautiful football.
“It’s quick, dynamic football. Willian showed quick feet and then the awareness from Hazard to pick out his partner in crime…”
Having booked their place in the last 16 of the Champions League, Chelsea will now turn their attentions towards their Premier League showdown with Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Antonio Conte’s side are currently third in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaign.
Liverpool, meanwhile, head into the game on the back of their frustrating 3-3 draw with Sevilla on Tuesday night.
