Frank Lampard: I don’t know what Tiemoue Bakayoko’s issue at Chelsea is
Frank Lampard discusses Tiemoue Bakayoko's start to life at Chelsea following his move from Monaco
Frank Lampard has admitted that he is unsure why Tiemoue Bakayoko appears to be struggling to adapt to life at Chelsea.
The French midfielder signed for the west London side from Monaco in the summer transfer window after Antonio Conte deemed Nemanja Matic to be surplus to requirements and opted to sell the Serbian to Manchester United.
Bakayoko has been a regular fixture in the first team at Stamford Bridge this season, but he seems to be struggling to produce consistent performances for Conte’s side.
The midfielder struggled to make much of an impact in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool FC at Stamford Bridge at the weekend.
And former Chelsea star Lampard admits that he is not quite sure about Bakayoko, having watched him in action a number of times this season.
Speaking to BT Sport after Saturday’s game, Lampard said: “I don’t know [what the issue is with Bakayoko].
“It’s a new league but there’s only so long you can make these sort of excuses.
“He seemingly has the attributes – I’ve seen him play some nice passes and have some good touches. I’ve seen him have good games, and games where he’s been slightly off.
“He’s going to have to realise very soon that he will have to get that level up, again and again.
“The basic level is getting tight to people, and then after that you see what he can do on the ball as well.”
Bakayoko will be hoping to start for Chelsea on Wednesday night, when the Blues return to Premier League action with a home clash against Swansea City.
Their draw at Liverpool FC left Conte’s men in third place in the Premier League table and 11 points behind leaders Manchester City after 13 games of the new campaign as they look to try and defend their title.
