Steven Gerrard reacts to Chelsea’s 4-0 win over Qarabag
Steven Gerrard praises Chelsea for their professional performance in their 4-0 victory over Qarabag on Wednesday night
Steven Gerrard praised Chelsea for producing a professional performance as they beat 10-man Qarabag in style to book their place in the last 16 of the Champions League.
The Blues took the lead when Eden Hazard first home his penalty in the 21st minute.
And Antonio Conte’s men made it 2-0 shortly after when Willian combined brilliantly with Hazard and slotted home.
Cesc Fabregas then netted a penalty in the 74th minute to put the result beyond doubt, before Willian aimed a fine shot home in the 85th minute.
The victory secured Chelsea’s safe progression to the knockout phase of Europe’s elite club competition with a game to spare.
And former Liverpool star Gerrard was particularly impressed by the way Chelsea went about their business in Azerbaijan.
Speaking during BT Sport‘s coverage of the game, Liverpool legend Gerrard said: “Chelsea have been very professional. They showed the right mentality.
“You wonder coming into a game like that, what with all the travel and beating them 6-0 in Matchday One… they have been very professional.”
Chelsea, who won the title in Conte’s first campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge last season, now switch their attentions back to Premier League affairs and their crunch clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Saturday evening.
Antonio Conte’s men are currently third in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City after 12 games of the new campaign.
Liverpool know that victory over Chelsea on Saturday would move them level on points with the Blues as the hectic festive period in the Premier League draws ever nearer.
