Chelsea told they’ve sold the Premier League’s best player
Jamie Redknapp believes that Kevin De Bruyne has developed into the Premier League's best player since leaving Chelsae
Jamie Redknapp has told Chelsea that Kevin De Bruyne has established himself as the best player in the Premier League since leaving the west London club.
De Bruyne left Chelsea to sign for Wolfsburg on a permanent transfer back in January 2014 after the Belgian was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.
The Belgium international continued his development at the German club before he eventually signed for Chelsea’s Premier League rivals Manchester City in August 2015.
De Bruyne has been one of Manchester City’s standout performers this season and has helped the Citizens build an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table after just 12 games.
Indeed, the 26-year-old has scored three goals and made six assists after having started all 12 of the Citizens’ Premier League games this term.
And former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp believes that Chelsea are likely to regret letting De Bruyne leave the club after his impressive form at Manchester City.
Writing in his column for the Daily Mail, Redknapp said: “Three high-profile ex-Chelsea players scored on Saturday – Mohamed Salah, Romelu Lukaku and Kevin De Bruyne.
“The club have been criticised for letting them go but De Bruyne – now the Premier League’s best player – can be their only real regret.”
Chelsea are currently preparing for their Champions League clash against Qarabag on Wednesday night.
Antonio Conte’s men need a win to book their place in the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
