Alvaro Morata is a “million times” better than his Manchester United rival Romelu Lukaku, according to Pat Nevin.

Chelsea signed the Spain international in a £58m deal from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the 2017 summer transfer window ahead of Diego Costa’s return to Atletico Madrid.

The Blues were initially linked with a move to sign Lukaku but the Belgium international opted to reunite with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford in a £75m deal.

Lukaku scored seven times in seven games in the Premier League to make an exciting start to his Manchester United career.

Morata, though, has made a steady transition to the Premier League with a brilliant hat-trick in a 4-1 win at Stoke City.

Both Lukaku and Morata started Sunday’s Premier League clash looking to end goal droughts following a drop in form.

The Spanish striker scored a 55th-minute winner in a 1-0 win against Manchester United to take his tally to seven goals in 10 games.

Lukaku, on the other hand, struggled to have a telling impact on the top of the table clash as he drew another blank after failing to score against Liverpool, Huddersfield Town and Tottenham Hotspur.

Former Chelsea winger Nevin explained why he believes Morata is a superior striker to Lukaku.

“I was getting in trouble again about who I’d rather have: Morata or Lukaku,” Nevin told Newstalk.

“I’ve never moved on Morata. He is a million times a better player than Lukaku. He has stunk since he came back from injury.

“He didn’t look match fit or up for it. He showed all the quality he has on the day.”
