Jamie Redknapp uses Romelu Lukaku to make point about Chelsea signing
The Liverpool legend highlights the performances of Alvaro Morata and Romelu Lukaku in Chelsea's 1-0 victory over Manchester United
Jamie Redknapp believes Alvaro Morata schooled Romelu Lukaku on how to lead the line in a top of the table clash after the striker scored the winner in Chelsea’s 1-0 victory over Manchester United on Sunday evening.
Lukaku returned to Stamford Bridge looking to end a five-game goal drough after failing to score against top-six rivals Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur over the past month or so.
Morata was also looking to end a goalless run at Stamford Bridge since his equaliser in a 2-1 victory over Atletico Madrid in the Champions League at the end of August.
Chelsea’s Spanish striker netted a superb header to in the 55th minute to secure three points for the defending champions at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
Lukaku registered one shot on target that Chelsea goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois pushed to safety as the Belgian striker finished without a goal for the sixth successive game.
Former Liverpool midfielder Redknapp heaped praise on Morata for a wonderful performance to cast a shadow over Lukaku.
“You still have to work and try to carve a goal out of nothing but Lukaku seems to have a knack of finding himself in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Redknapp told the Daily Mail.
“Contrast this with Alvaro Morata, who was superb leading the line for Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.
“I am still not completely sold on Morata but he held the ball up well and his header from Cesar Azpilicueta’s cross was stunning.”
Chelsea are looking to win their third Premier League title in four seasons after the Blues finished seven points clear of their closest challengers Tottenham Hotspur last term.
