Pat Nevin makes exciting prediction about 21-year-old Chelsea star
The Chelsea legend is backing Andreas Christensen to develop into a top defender
Pat Nevin believes there is much more to come from Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen.
The Denmark international returned from a two-season long loan at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Monchengladbach to gain some vital first-team experience in Germany.
Indeed, Christensen scored five goals in 62 appearances in the Bundesliga as well as netting two goals in 14 games in the Champions League and the Europa League.
The 21-year-old has made eight appearances in the Premier League this season to establish himself as a first-team regular under Chelsea boss Antonio Conte.
He has also appeared in the Champions League three times to play an important role for the Italian coach.
Indeed, Conte made the controversial decision to start Christensen ahead of Brazilian defender David Luiz for the visit of title rivals Manchester United last weekend.
The decision paid dividends after Christensen managed to tame Manchester United summer signing Romelu Lukaku as the defending champions were 1-0 winners at Stamford Bridge.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin believes Christensen will only get better after his impressive start to his Premier League career with the west London outfit.
“I think there is so much more to come,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“They say usually centre-halves are pretty rubbish until they’re in their mid 20s. He’s only 21 and he’s ready.”
Chelsea are in fourth place in the Premier League table but nine points adrift of current leaders Manchester City.
