Antonio Conte told 21-year-old Chelsea star is ‘phenomenal’
Chelsea legend Pat Nevin heaps praise on Blues defender Andreas Christensen for his excellent performance
Pat Nevin has singled out Andreas Christensen for special praise after the Chelsea defender kept Romelu Lukaku quiet in last weekend’s 1-0 win against Manchester United.
Antonio Conte made the controversial decision to start Christensen ahead of David Luiz for the visit of Manchester United in the Premier League.
Christensen came up against his former Chelsea team-mate Lukaku as part of a back three alongside Cesar Azpilicueta and Gary Cahill.
The 21-year-old Danish defender produced a masterful performance to limit Lukaku’s impact on the Premier League clash.
Indeed, Christensen won two tackles and won four headers to help Chelsea keep a clean sheet despite their recent poor defensive form.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin singled out the Denmark international for his tremendous performance up against Lukaku at Stamford Bridge last weekend.
“Christensen comes in. He was phenomenal. He didn’t lose one battle with Lukaku,” Nevin told Newstalk.
Chelsea are in third place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
Christensen has started six games and has made three substitute appearances in the Champions League and the Premier League this term.
The Blues will make the trip to Tony Pulis’ West Brom side at The Hawthorns in their next Premier League game at The Hawthorns.
