Gary Lineker sends clear message to Chelsea fans about Cesc Fabregas
Gary Lineker explains why he is such a big fan of Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea
Gary Lineker has described Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas as one of the best passers in Premier League history.
The 30-year-old midfielder has established himself as one of the Blues’ most important players since his surprise move to Stamford Bridge from Barcelona back in 2014.
Fabregas has helped Chelsea to win two Premier League titles during his time at Stamford Bridge and he is a firm favourite amongst the west London club’s fans.
The former Arsenal captain is known for his exquisite passing ability and former Barcelona star Lineker believes that Fabregas is one of the best around.
Speaking to BBC Sport, Lineker said: “Fans of Chelsea’s rivals might be influenced by their bias but, generally, I think most people appreciate him for what he has won, and the way he has done it – and those that don’t do not get the game.
“He is one of the best passers we have seen in the 25 years of the Premier League and the kind of player I just love to watch.
“As a person and a player, he is proof that you can be a decent guy, a graceful footballer – and a winner as well.”
Fabregas joined Chelsea before the 2014 World Cup as Jose Mourinho bolstered his midfield options at Stamford Bridge.
The move came after the midfielder failed to establish himself as a regular in the first team at Barcelona following his return to his boyhood club from Arsenal back in August 2011.
Fabregas will be hoping to help Chelsea try and defend their Premier League title this season after having lifted the trophy in Antonio Conte’s first campaign in charge at the club last term.
The Blues, however, did not have the distraction of European football last season as they focused purely on domestic affairs.
