Gary Neville credits Chelsea with discovering their high level from last season in last weekend’s 1-0 win against title rivals Manchester United.

The west London side won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term after Antonio Conte got his hands on the top-flight crown in his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea made the controversial decision to allow Serbia international Nemanja Matic to move to Manchester United in a £40m deal in the summer transfer window in August.

Diego Costa has also left the title holders on loan move to Atletico Madrid with a view to a permanent switch at the end of the 2017-18 season.

Chelsea lost 1-0 to Premier League leaders Manchester City at Stamford Bridge to raise questions about their title credentials, while the Blues suffered surprise defeats at the hands of Burnley and Crystal Palace.

But Conte’s men responded last week with a dominant performance in a 1-0 victory over former manager Jose Mourinho and Manchester United.

Former Manchester United legend Neville credited Chelsea with an impressive performance to get their season back on track.

Neville told Sky Sports: “You talk about them being champions last season but dropping off this year. That was a really high level [against Man United].”

Chelsea are nine points adrift of runaway leaders Manchester City after 11 games.

The Blues signed six players in the summer transfer window in an attempt to improve their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
