The 23-year-old moved to defending Premier League champions Chelsea in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 side AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.
Bakayoko started the season with an injury problem but made his Premier League debut in a 2-1 win against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley back in August.
The France midfielder replaced Nemanja Matic in the Chelsea team after the Serbia international in a £40m deal to Manchester United.
Matic has been hailed as a brilliant signing after providing Jose Mourinho’s midfield with greater balance in the 2017-18 season so far.
Bakayoko got the better of Matic in Chelsea’s 1-0 win against Manchester United at Stamford Bridge in their last Premier League outing.
Former Chelsea winger Nevin is excited about Bakayoko’s potential to improve despite conceding that the midfielder is still very raw.
“Matic is a better player right now but Bakayoko is 23. Matic is a lot older than that. Bakayoko spent a lot of time on the edge of the penalty area,” Nevin told Newstalk.
“He was a colossus. He was attacking Man United’s defence. His touch was horrible, his passing was terrible and his finishing was awful.
“I looked at him and thought that in there is an absolute colossus. He battered Matic on the day. There is a lot more to come.”
Manchester United signed Matic alongside Everton striker Romelu Lukaku and Benfica defender Victor Lindelof in the summer transfer window.
The Red Devils finished in sixth place in the Premier League table last term, while Chelsea won the top-flight crown.
