Ian Wright admits he is confused why Antonio Conte is starting Chelsea signing Timeoue Bakayoko in an attacking role ahead of Pedro and Willian.

The summer signing started alongside Cesc Fabregas and N’Golo Kante in the Chelsea midfield for the visit of Manchester United on Sunday evening.

The 23-year-old had a number of opportunities during the top of the table clash but the France international misfield from the edge of the area.

Chelsea eased to a 1-0 victory over Manchester United thanks to Alvaro Morata’s second-half winner at Stamford Bridge.

Bakayoko has scored one goal and has made two assists in nine appearances in the Premier League to make a decent start to his Stamford Bridge career.

Pedro and Willian have struggled to tie down a regular place in Conte’s starting XI so far this season.

Former Arsenal striker Wright urged Conte to forget about using Bakayoko in an advanced midfield role.

“Just a quick one on Bakayoko, because I have to get it out otherwise I’ll forget,” Wright told BBC Radio 5 Live.

“I’m not having him yet, I’m sorry.

“I can’t understand how he can get in the team before Willian and Pedro at the moment.

“Especially when he played further forward.

“I need to see a lot more from him, that’s all I’m saying.”

Chelsea signed Bakayoko in a £40m deal from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco in the summer transfer window.

The title holders are nine points adrift of current leaders Manchester City after 11 games.

The west London side signed six players in the summer transfer window to prepare for a return to the Champions League.
