Jamie Redknapp warns Chelsea about Man United danger-man
Jamie Redknapp talks up Anthony Martial's importance to Man United ahead of the clash with Chelsea on Sunday
Jamie Redknapp has warned Chelsea that they will have to be at their best if they want to keep Anthony Martial quiet during Manchester United’s trip to Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
Martial once again proved his worth to the Red Devils last weekend when he came off the bench to score the all-important winner in the 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
The French striker has been made to wait for a starting spot in Jose Mourinho’s first team this season but he has proved himself with a strong impact coming off the bench.
Indeed, Martial has scored four goals and made two assists in nine Premier League games so far this term, despite starting only three of those matches.
And former midfielder Redknapp believes that Martial will be one of Manchester United’s key threats at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, even if he only comes off the bench.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “More than any other club in the Premier League, Man United have had great subs throughout the years.
“I think of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer when he is used to come off the bench and affect the game with a couple of minutes to go.
“No-one wants to be known as a super sub. When you have a player who can come off the bench and inject some pace, they’re worth their weight in gold.
“He [Martial] can come off the bench and give Man United pace.”
Manchester United head into their clash with Chelsea in second place in the Premier League table and five points behind leaders Manchester City after 10 games.
The Red Devils were thrashed 4-0 by the Blues in the same Premier League fixture last season.
