The Blues suffered a comprehensive 3-0 loss to Roma in the Champions League on Tuesday night to deal a blow to their hopes of qualifying for the last 16 of Europe’s elite club competition.
It has been something of a mixed start to the new campaign for Antonio Conte’s men, with the Blues having already lost three of their opening 10 games in the Premier League.
Manchester United head into Sunday’s game on the back of their 2-0 victory over Benfica on Tuesday night.
Jose Mourinho’s men suffered a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Chelsea at Stamford Bridge when the two teams met last season in the same fixture.
And Chelsea goalkeeper Courtois is expecting the Blues to bounce back against the Red Devils on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to BT Sport after Tuesday night’s game, Courtois said: “We have to fight back on Sunday against Manchester United.
“Sometimes last season I had nothing to do in a game, sometimes I’d have one save to make.
“We have to react on Sunday as today [against Roma] was a bad image of ourselves.”
Chelsea are currently in fourth place in the Premier League table and nine points behind leaders Manchester City.
Manchester United, meanwhile, are second in the table and five points behind leaders Manchester City after 10 games of the new campaign.
