Gary Neville assesses the state of the Premier League title race after the latest round of top-flight fixtures
Gary Neville believes that Manchester United are the only team capable of catching Manchester City in the Premier League title race this season and says that Chelsea don’t look “right”.
Manchester City kept up their fine form in the Premier League on Sunday when the came from behind to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1 and keep their spot at the top of the table.
Manchester United are currently the Citizens’ closest challengers for the Premier League title, with Jose Mourinho’s men second in the table and eight points behind the leaders.
Chelsea, meanwhile, fell further behind the leaders this weekend, with Antonio Conte’s men now 11 points behind Manchester City after 13 games.
And former Manchester United defender Neville believes that the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Arsenal are already out of the Premier League title race this season.
Former England defender Neville told Sky Sports: “It definitely does [remain a Manchester duel for the title].
“At this moment in time, it is United who are closest to Man City but I don’t think Liverpool, Tottenham, Arsenal or Chelsea are right this season.
“Man United are certainly the most capable, I think, to mount a challenge to Man City but it’s about getting close enough to them.
“At the moment, Man City’s performances are really good, it’s a high level.”
The stage is most certainly set for a thrilling Manchester derby clash between Manchester City and Manchester United at Old Trafford on 10 December.
Manchester United, who finished in sixth place last season, are aiming to win the Premier League title for the first time since their final triumph under Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013.
