Chelsea have entered the race to sign Mesut Ozil from Arsenal next year, according to reports in Germany.

German newspaper SportBild, as quoted by Metro, is claiming that the 29-year-old playmaker has emerged as a potential target for the west London side in recent days.

The same report states that Manchester United are also among the clubs interested in signing Ozil, as the uncertainty about his situation continues.

Ozil’s future has been a relentless source of speculation in recent months after both he and Alexis Sanchez entered into the final 12 months of their contracts at The Emirates.

Arsenal are now facing the very real prospect of losing Ozil on a free transfer next summer, unless they decide to cash-in in January or he pens a new contract before then.

The same report claims that Chelsea are now a “hot candidate” to sign Ozil next year, as Antonio Conte ponders bolstering his attacking options at Stamford Bridge.

Ozil has earned a reputation as one of the Premier League’s top playmakers since his move to Arsenal from Real Madrid back in the summer of 2013.

Meanwhile, the playmaker will be hoping to start for Arsenal when they take on Manchester United at The Emirates on Saturday in the Premier League.
