Chelsea are weighing up a January transfer bid to try and sign Lyon defender Mouctar Diakhaby, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mail is claiming that the west London club have pencilled the 20-year-old centre-half as a potential January transfer target as Antonio Conte considers bolstering his defensive options at Stamford Bridge in the new year.

The same report states that Diakhaby has already been watched by scouts from the likes of Manchester City and Juventus after his impressive performances for Lyon in the Europa League.

The story says that Chelsea are considering a move for the young Frenchman but that they will probably have to beat competition from other Premier League clubs as they look to land the defender.

Diakhaby has made a total of seven appearances in all competitions for Lyon so far this season.

Chelsea were one of the Premier League’s biggest spending clubs in the summer as they brought in six new players ahead of Conte’s second campaign in charge at Stamford Bridge.

The west London side boosted their Premier League title hopes on Sunday with 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge thanks to Alvaro Morata’s second-half header.
