Rio Ferdinand has warned Manchester United that they will have to be at their best if they want to keep Alvaro Morata quiet in Sunday’s crunch clash with Chelsea.

The Spanish striker has made a strong start to life at Stamford Bridge after signing for the defending champions in a big-money deal from Real Madrid back in July.

Morata made a fine start in the Premier League by scoring six goals and making three assists in his first nine appearances for the west London side.

However, he has struggled in recent weeks and has failed to find the net in his last six outings in all competitions.

Chelsea fans will be hoping to see their side return to winning ways in the Premier League on Sunday when they host Manchester United after the disappointment of their 3-0 loss to Roma on Tuesday night.

And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand has been very impressed with what he has seen from Morata so far this season.

Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand said: “He scores a variety of goals. He has very good movement. He ghosts into positions and he knows where to be.

“He knows what he is good at. He can get across defenders and make runs into the box. He has settled in very well.”

Chelsea are looking to close the gap to leaders Manchester City after having already fallen nine points behind the Premier League pace-setters.

The Blues won the title in Conte’s first campaign at the club last season.
