Eden Hazard has revealed that it was Jose Mourinho who first gave him the confidence to think that he could be one of the best players in the world at Chelsea.

Mourinho returned for a second spell in charge at Chelsea in the summer of 2013 and started to work with Hazard as the Blues built a team capable of challenging for the Premier League title.

The former Lille star played a key role in helping Chelsea to win the Premier League title and League Cup in the 2014-15 campaign under Mourinho.

However, like most of his team-mates, Hazard suffered a serious dip in form in the 2015-16 campaign as the Blues slumped to a 10th-placed finish in the Premier League table.

Mourinho was sacked by Chelsea in December 2015 and the Portuguese coach has since gone on to be appointed as Manchester United’s new manager.

Now however, Hazard has spoken of his respect for Mourinho as one of the most important managers in his career.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Hazard said: “When Jose came he tried to make me one of the best players in England and I think he put this in my mind, that it was possible.

“I started to realise that if I’m playing well in every game I could be one of the best.”

Hazard was a key player for Chelsea last season as the Blues won the Premier League title for the second time in three years under Antonio Conte last season.

The Blues are next in action after the international break when they take on West Brom at The Hawthorns on Saturday 18 November.
