The Blues made a hesitant start to their defence of their Premier League crown after Chelsea lost 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge on the opening day of the 2017-18 season.
Antonio Conte’s side have since suffered a 1-0 loss to leaders Manchester City in west London following Kevin De Bruyne’s second-half winner against his former club.
The defending champions were shock 2-1 losers at the Premier League’s basement club Crystal Palace to leave the Blues with a nine-point deficit behind Manchester City.
The Citizens have barely put a foot wrong in the title race so far after an impressive return of 10 victories from their opening 11 games in the Premier League.
While Chelsea were 2-1 winners against title rivals Manchester United in their last Premier League game, Lampard has ruled out Conte’s men overhauling Manchester City.
“Man City, it’s what we’re all saying now but I can’t see them being caught,” Lampard told Copa90.
“Some people are saying ‘yeah but the last two years they started well and went away’… I think there’s much more to them this year.
“It’s great to see a team playing that way, we all want to see our own teams involved but when they’re playing that beautiful football it’s great to watch whether you’re a City fan or not.”
Chelsea are looking to win their third Premier League title in four seasons but face a tough task overhauling the west London outfit.
The defending champions signed six players in the summer transfer window as Conte looked to revamp his squad.
Chelsea made the controversial decision to allow Diego Costa and Nemanja Matic to leave Stamford Bridge.
