Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink is expecting to see Chelsea splash the cash in the January transfer window as the Blues look to claw their way back into the Premier League title race.

The west London side boosted their hopes of catching Manchester City in the race for the title when they secured a 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Stamford Bridge on Sunday thanks to Alvaro Morata’s headed goal.

Chelsea were one of the busiest Premier League clubs in the summer transfer window as Antonio Conte moved to bring in six new players ahead of his second campaign in charge at the west London club.

The Blues have some work to do if they are to catch Manchester City, with Conte’s men currently fourth in the table and nine points behind the leaders after 11 games of the new campaign.

And former Chelsea star Hasselbaink is fully expecting to see the Blues make a number of new signings when the transfer window opens in the new year.

Speaking to the Daily Express, Hasselbaink said: “Chelsea and all the clubs will still be looking to improve their squads, that is just normal.

“They will be assessing their squad and seeing where they can bring somebody in.

“I think that’s normal. And I think Chelsea is no different.”

Chelsea will return to Premier League action after the international break with a trip to West Bromwich Albion on Saturday 18 November.

The west London side will then take on Qarabag in the Champions League group stage the following week.
