Michael Owen has hailed James Milner as a great player to have in the Liverpool squad.

The retired England international made his fourth start of the Premier League season last weekend as he captained Liverpool to a 3-0 victory over Huddersfield Town at Anfield.

Milner started Liverpool’s 3-0 victory over Slovenian side Maribor at Anfield in the Champions League on Wednesday night to cement top spot in Group E.

The 31-year-old produced a brilliant assist to tee up Emre Can for Liverpool’s second goal in an emphatic 3-0 victory over Maribor.

Former Liverpool striker Owen talked up the importance of Milner to Reds boss Jurgen Klopp.

“He will never let you down, he’s good with both feet. He works as hard as anyone in the Premier League,” Owen told BT Sport.

“He will run off the ball. He will work hard for you. He is a great player to have in your squad.”

The veteran midfielder has made three assists in 10 appearances in all competitions for Liverpool in the 2017-18 season so far.

Milner moved to Liverpool on a free transfer from Manchester City in the 2015 summer window under Klopp’s predecessor Brendan Rodgers.

The former Aston Villa and Newcastle United midfielder is Liverpool vice-captain.

Liverpool were 4-1 winners against West Ham United in the Premier League on Saturday evening.
