Steven Gerrard: Liverpool FC star is top drawer, he’s been by far the best
The Liverpool legend admits he had doubts about summer signing Mohamed Salah
Steven Gerrard has admitted that he had some doubts about Mohamed Salah after Liverpool signed the winger from AS Roma in the summer.
The Merseyside outfit parted with £39m to sign the former Chelsea midfielder from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
Salah struggled to make an impression at Stamford Bridge during a six-month stint before the winger was loaned out to Fiorentina and then AS Roma.
The Egypt international scored his sixth and seventh goals of the Premier League season at the London Stadium on Saturday evening as Salah helped the Merseyside outfit to secure three points in a 4-1 victory over West Ham United.
Salah has scored 10 goals and has made three assists in 15 appearances in all competitions in the 2017-18 season so far.
Former Liverpool captain Gerrard lavished praise on the African forward despite revealing his initial concerns after Salah’s brilliant performance in a 4-1 win at West Ham.
“When he first came I, along with a lot of Liverpool fans, wasn’t quite sure how it was going to work out for him,” Gerrard told BT Sport.
“But you’ve got to give the manager and the recruitment staff at Liverpool a huge amount of credit for spending that amount of money on a player who it hasn’t worked out for in the Premier League before.
“He’s come in and he’s been absolutely top drawer this season. He’s been Liverpool’s best player by a mile.”
Liverpool finished in fourth place in the Premier League table last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
The Reds signed four players in the summer transfer window to prepare their squad ahead of a return to the Champions League.
