Paul Merson names who will be the next Liverpool FC manager
The Arsenal legend believes Rafael Benitez is more likely to take over at Liverpool FC than Everton
Paul Merson has suggested that Rafael Benitez’s next position could be back at Liverpool FC.
The Spanish coach led Liverpool to their famous Champions League success in 2005 when the Reds beat AC Milan on penalties in Istanbul.
Liverpool beat West Ham in a shootout 12 months later at Wembley to win the FA Cup to secure two trophies in Benitez’s first two seasons at Anfield.
Benitez, who won La Liga twice with Valencia during his spell in charge of los Che, led Liverpool to the brink of title glory in 2008-09 but the Reds missed out to Manchester United.
He left the club in 2010 before taking over Inter Milan following Jose Mourinho.
Benitez has since managed Real Madrid, Chelsea and Napoli before taking over the reins of Newcastle United in 2015.
He managed to steer the Magpies back into the Premier League last term and his Newcastle side are in the process of consilidating their position.
Benitez was suggested as a potential candidate to take over at Everton, but Merson suggested a return to Liverpool could be the more likely Merseyside move.
“Liverpool will be Rafa’s next job, not Everton,” Merson told Sky Sports.
Liverpool are in fifth place in the Premier League table but 12 points behind current leaders Manchester City after 11 games.
