Phil Thompson believes Liverpool FC will finish in the Premier League’s top four this season.

The Reds managed to see off a late challenge from Arsenal to secure fourth place and a spot in the Champions League last term.

Liverpool FC signed four players in the summer transfer window in an attempt to improve their squad ahead of a potential title tilt.

However, the Reds failed to sign Southampton captain Virgil van Dijk or another top-class centre-half to leave Jurgen Klopp’s side short on quality at the back.

Liverpool FC conceded 18 times in 13 games in the Premier League ahead of Wednesday night’s trip to Stoke City.

Klopp’s side aren’t expected to challenge for the title after dropping too many points in the opening months of the 2017-18 Premier League campaign.

The Merseyside outfit will be hoping to secure another top-four finish to secure a place in the Champions League for the second successive season.

Former Liverpool FC captain Thompson is tipping Klopp’s men to finish in the Premier League’s top four thanks the attacking talent in their Reds squad.

“Liverpool have their frailties but so do all of the other sides so I’m backing them to make the top four, but it can all change month-by-month because it is so close and tough to call,” Thompson told Sky Sports.

Liverpool FC lost 5-0 at Manchester City and suffered a chastening 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League campaign so far.
