Steven Gerrard names two of Liverpool FC’s unsung heroes
Steven Gerrard explains why he was impressed by Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum for Liverpool FC against West Ham
Steven Gerrard has praised Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum as two of Liverpool FC’s unsung heroes after their strong performance in the 4-1 victory over West Ham on Saturday.
The Reds produced an impressive performance against the Hammers as Jurgen Klopp’s men secured a solid victory to boost their Premier League hopes and move them up into fifth place in the table.
Can and Wijnaldum played the full 90 minutes in east London as the Merseyside outfit earned praise for their performance against the sorry Hammers.
And former Liverpool midfielder Gerrard was impressed by what he saw from the pair following their displays in the capital.
Speaking on BT Sport after the game, Gerrard said: “I think it was a more disciplined performance [from Liverpool against West Ham]. The full-backs only went on the odd occasion.
“I thought Emre Can and Georginio Wijnaldum were superb on Saturday.”
Liverpool’s win over West Ham lifted them up into fifth place but still left them 12 points behind leaders Manchester City in the race for the Premier League title.
Klopp’s men are back in Premier League action after the international break when they take on Southampton at Anfield on Saturday 18 November.
The Reds are aiming to better their fourth placed finish in the Premier League last season as they look to challenge for the title while also reaching the last 16 of the Champions League.
