Steve McManaman makes gloomy Liverpool FC prediction about Emre Can
The Liverpool legend is tipping Emre Can to leave the Merseyside outfit next summer
Steve McManaman has tipped Emre Can to leave Liverpool next summer.
The 23-year-old’s future has become a source of speculation in recent weeks after the German midfielder entered the final 12 months of his current contract.
The Liverpool midfielder has been linked with a move to Serie A giants Juventus as the Italian club look to bolster their midfield following Paul Pogba’s departure in 2016.
Premier League leaders Manchester City have also been touted as a potential destination for the versatile midfielder, although a move to the Citizens would be controversial given their rivalry with Liverpool.
Can has made two assists in eight appearances in the Premier League, while Can has scored against Hoffenheim and Maribor in the Champions League.
Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp remains relaxed about Can’s future even though the former Bayern Munich midfielder will be free to talk to interested clubs in January.
Ex-Reds captain McManaman tipped Can to leave Liverpool at the end of the 2017-18 season.
“I presume he’ll leave. He might not be happy at Liverpool – I don’t know the lad, I’ve no idea,” McManaman told BT Sport.
“When there’s interest from Juventus or another side, he seems to quite like that. He might want to go elsewhere, we’ve seen it before.
“I honestly don’t know but now we’re getting down this point and he can start speaking to foreign teams in January…”
Can moved to Liverpool in an £8.75m deal from German club Bayer Leverkusen in the 2015 summer transfer window under Brendan Rodgers.
The Germany international has been used at centre-half, right-back and in midfield during his three-season spell at Anfield.
