Jamie Carragher: Liverpool FC signing can surpass Ryan Giggs
The Liverpool FC legend believes Mohamed Salah can surpass Robert Pires and Ryan Giggs as the league's best-ever goal-scoring winger
Jamie Carragher believes Liverpool signing Mohamed Salah could surpass legends such as Robert Pires and Ryan Giggs as the Premier League’s greatest goal-scoring winger.
The Egypt international moved to Liverpool in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window.
Salah scored on his Premier League debut in a 3-3 draw with Watford at Vicarage Road before he netted in a 4-2 win against Hoffenheim to help Liverpool reach the group stage.
The African forward chipped in with important goals against Arsenal and Tottenham, as well as netting against Sevilla and Spartak Moscow in the Champions League.
Salah signed off before the most recent international break with two goals in a 4-1 win at West Ham United before netting twice in a 3-0 victory over Southampton last weekend.
The African forward has now scored nine times in 12 games in the Premier League to beat Robbie Fowler’s record at the Merseyside club.
Former Liverpool defender Carragher tipped Salah to surpass Pires and Giggs as the Premier League’s great goal-scoring winger if he remains at Anfield for two or three seasons.
“You think of the great goal-scoring winger, if he stays here three or four seasons, he will eclipse them all,” Carragher told Sky Sports.
“You think of Ljungberg, Pires and Giggs. Those wide players who always make those runs across the defensive line.”
