Joe Gomez believes Jurgen Klopp’s personal approach to manager has helped to improve the Liverpool FC defender.

The Reds boss has utilised Gomez at right-back in the absence of Nathaniel Clyne in the 2017-18 Premier League season so far.

The 20-year-old has impressed at full-back having initially broken into the Liverpool FC team at left-back under Brendan Rodgers in 2015.

Gomez’s impressive performances in Klopp’s team earned the promising defender his first England cap as a substitute in a 0-0 draw with world champions Germany at Wembley.

The former Charlton Athletic man made his first Three Lions start as a centre-half in Gareth Southgate’s back three for a goalless draw with Brazil earlier this month.

Gomez opened up about how Klopp has improved the England international as a defender since the German’s appointment as Brendan Rodgers’ successor in October 2015.

“I wouldn’t say there’s a specific piece of advice, it’s just his management, the way he goes about trying to get the best out of you,” Gomez told The Sport Review.

“It’s a really personal connection, rather than just giving instructions or telling me to do this, do that. When he tells you something, he really means it.

“It gives you that desire to want to play for him and get the best out of yourself for the team and for him, because you just like him as a manager and person as well.”

Gomez made his first Premier League start in almost 24 months when he helped Liverpool FC to secure a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace at Anfield back in August.

The Reds are in sixth place in the Premier League table ahead of their trip to Stoke City on Wednesday night.

Liverpool FC squandered a 1-0 lead to draw 1-1 with defending champions Chelsea in their last top-flight outing.

Joe Gomez was speaking to The Sport Review on behalf of New Balance at the launch of the NB|LFC CXXV Sportswear range. To see the special range in full, visit the official Liverpool FC online store.
