Mark Lawrenson: How Jurgen Klopp has been clever resolving Liverpool FC issues
The Liverpool FC legend believes Jurgen Klopp's shrewd management has helped to end their disappointing run of form
Mark Lawrenson has credited Jurgen Klopp with halting Liverpool’s poor run of form.
The Reds suffered a chastening 4-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley as Harry Kane ran Liverpool’s defence ragged in a damaging defeat for Klopp’s men.
Dejan Lovren lasted 32 minutes of the Premier League clash before the Croatia international was taken off following a disastrous start to the Wembley clash.
Aside from Lovren, Klopp has stuck with largely the same team since the embarrassing defeat and Liverpool have managed to record back-to-back victories.
The Merseyside outfit were 3-0 winners against promoted side Huddersfield Town at Anfield thanks to goals from Daniel Sturridge, Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum.
Liverpool cemented their place at the top of Champions League Group E with a 3-0 victory over Slovenian side Maribor after Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock in the second half.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes Klopp produced a shrewd bit of management by allowing his players to prove a point following their heavy defeat at Tottenham.
“Liverpool have played a couple of games since they lost 4-1 at Tottenham and Klopp has been clever by playing nearly the same team,” Lawrenson told BBC Sport.
“He did that to tell his players: prove I am not wrong and show you are decent players.”
Liverpool will make the long trip to West Ham United at the London Stadium in their next Premier League game on Saturday afternoon.
The Reds are in sixth place in the Premier League table after 10 games.
