Mark Lawrenson explains why Liverpool FC will finish in top four
The Liverpool FC legend is convinced Jurgen Klopp's men will secure a spot in the top four
Mark Lawrenson has backed Liverpool to finish in the Premier League’s top four this term despite their defensive problems.
The Reds have struggled with numerous defensive problems since in the current campaign to raise questions about Jurgen Klopp’s recruitment policy.
Liverpool have conceded 17 times in their opening 12 games in the Premier League this term to leave the Reds in fifth place in the table but only a point behind Chelsea in fourth.
The Merseyside outfit are 12 points adrift of Premier League leaders to make a title challenge look increasingly unlikely this season.
Liverpool finished in fourth spot last term to secure a return to the Champions League after a two-season absence.
Former Reds defender Lawrenson is confident Klopp’s men will secure fourth spot and qualify for the Champions League in back-to-back seasons.
“I never thought they’d win the league but I really do believe they’ve got a great chance of finishing fourth,” Lawrenson told Newstalk.
“If you’re not great defensively but you can attack all sorts of teams, the three points for Liverpool are massive thing.”
Liverpool signed AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah, Chelsea striker Domimic Solanke, Hull City defender Andy Robertson and Arsenal midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain in the summer.
The Merseyside outfit haven’t won the Premier League title but finished in second place in 2002, 2009 and 2014.
