Garth Crooks: I had no idea Liverpool FC star was so good in front of goal
The Spurs legend explains why Liverpool FC signing Mohamed Salah has been so impressive this season
Garth Crooks has admitted that Mohamed Salah’s clinical finishing for Liverpool FC has surprised the Spurs legend.
The Reds signed Salah in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window despite his disappointing spell at Chelsea.
The Egypt international struggled to make an impression at the west London club before he secured loan moves to Fiorentina and AS Roma.
Salah signed off before the international break with a double in a 4-1 win at West Ham United to take his tally to seven goals.
The African forward scored twice to take his tally to nine goals in 12 games in the Premier League in a 3-0 victory over Southampton.
Salah has netted 14 times in 18 appearances in all competitions to help Liverpool FC secure top spot in their Champions League group.
Former Spurs forward Crooks conceded that he didn’t expect Salah to be so impressive in front of goal.
“This player is on fire at the moment,” Crooks told BBC Sport. “Mohamed Salah has now scored nine goals in his first 12 Premier League games.
“I knew he could play but I had no idea he was so accomplished in front of goal. His finishing for someone who is not regarded as a natural goalscorer is quite phenomenal.”
Salah has netted four goals in his last two Premier League games to secure emphatic victories over West Ham and Southampton.
The Egyptian forward is the Premier League’s leading goal-scorer ahead of Chelsea striker Alvaro Morata, Tottenham’s England international Harry Kane and Manchester United summer signing Romelu Lukaku.
