Mark Lawrenson: 25-year-old’s form has even surprised Liverpool FC
The Liverpool FC legend believes the Reds have even been left surprised by Mohamed Salah's impressive performances
Mohamed Salah’s prolific start to his Anfield career has even surprised Liverpool FC, according to Mark Lawrenson.
The Reds signed Salah in a £39m deal from Serie A giants AS Roma in the summer transfer window to bolster their attacking options.
Salah struggled at Chelsea following his £14m switch to Stamford Bridge in 2014, but he last half a season before the winger was sent out on loan to Fiorentina.
The Egypt international impressed during loan spells with Fiorentina and AS Roma before he completed a permanent switch to the Italian capital.
Salah, though, has scored 10 goals in 13 games in the Premier League after netting twice in both victories over West Ham and Southampton before his opener in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea last weekend.
The 25-year-old has also netted five goals in six Champions League appearances this term to hit the ground running in Europe, too.
Former Liverpool defender Lawrenson believes Jurgen Klopp and the Anfield club didn’t expect Salah to do so well so soon at the Merseyside club.
“I can’t think of anyone better. I’m pretty sure he surprised Liverpool,” Lawrenson told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“They knew they signed a really good player [but] he’s been their best player. He’s been head and shoulders above the best.”
Salah scored from the penalty spot to secure Eygpt’s place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia last month.
