Frank Lampard: Why Sadio Mane is so important to Liverpool FC
The Chelsea legend talk up the importance of Sadio Mane to Liverpool FC
Frank Lampard has talked up Sadio Mane’s importance to Liverpool FC following Saturday’s 1-1 draw with defending champions Chelsea at Anfield.
Liverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp made the controversial decision to start Mane on the bench for the visit of the Premier League title holders.
Summer signing Mohamed Salah broke the deadlock in the second half before Chelsea substitute Willian levelled with five minutes to play.
Klopp turned to Mane in the 86th minute but the Senegal international was unable to affect the game during his brief Premier League cameo.
Mane scored in Liverpool’s opening three Premier League games against Watford, Crystal Palace and Arsenal before he was sent off at Manchester City.
The Senegal international’s red card disrupted his momentum before the Liverpool FC forward suffered a hamstring problem on national team duty at the start of October.
Mane scored 13 goals and made seven assists in the Premier League last season to help Liverpool FC secure a spot in the Champions League.
Former Chelsea midfielder Lampard explained Mane brings to the Liverpool FC team.
“Mane is such an important player for Liverpool,” Lampard told BT Sport.
“His pace and ability on the ball is so important for the team.”
Liverpool FC signed Mane in a £30m deal from Southampton in the 2016 summer transfer window.
The Reds will make the trip to Stoke City in their next Premier League game on Wednesday night.
