Gary Lineker reacts to Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea
Gary Lineker has his say after Liverpool FC's 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Saturday night
Gary Lineker took to social media to give his take on proceedings as Liverpool FC’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Saturday night.
After a goalless first half at Anfield, it was the in-form Mohamed Salah who put the home side ahead when he latched onto Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s poked pass and slid home past Thibaut Courtois in the 65th minute.
Liverpool FC grew into the game and improved in the second half, but substitute Willian equalised for Chelsea when his cross-shot beat Simon Mignolet in the 85th minute.
Leicester City supporter Lineker chimed in in the first half to reflect on the fact that former Foxes Danny Drinkwater and N’Golo Kante both started in midfield for Chelsea.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Watching Kante and Drinkwater play in midfield is making me teary with nostalgia.”
And then, after Salah had given Jurgen Klopp’s side the lead at Anfield, Lineker tweeted again: “Not a fan of not celebrating against former clubs after scoring but suspect Salah could be showing respect for his fellow Egyptians who lost their lives yesterday.”.
After Willian’s equaliser at Anfield, Lineker added: “It was coming, although very fortuitous when it did. Nevertheless it was excellent play from Willian.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they make the trip to the bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City.
Chelsea, meanwhile, will look to get back to winning ways when they host Swansea City at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday night.
