The Brazilian playmaker’s future was a relentless source of speculation throughout the summer transfer window as he was constantly linked with a move to Barcelona.
Coutinho was believed to be keen on a switch to Camp Nou and was widely reported to have handed in a transfer request in a bid to force through a move.
However, Liverpool held firm and decided not to sell their talismanic forward, who signed a new contract at Anfield back in January of this year.
Now, Sky Sports News pundit Bassong reckons that Coutinho could end up staying at Liverpool after he was recently quoted as saying he was happy at Anfield.
Speaking to Sky Sports News on Monday morning, Bassong said: “Of course (there’s a future at Liverpool for Coutinho), he said he’s happy.
“You’ve got to believe his words, trust his words.
“We all know in football that the word of today might not be the word of tomorrow, the decision of tomorrow.
“I think as a Brazilian player, a player who wants to improve his game, he might think again of going off to Barcelona.
“But that’s only my opinion.”
Coutinho will be hoping to feature for Liverpool when the Reds return to Premier League action on Saturday with a crunch home clash against Southampton at Anfield.
The Merseyside outfit head into that game on the back of their 4-1 win over West Ham United before the international break at the London Stadium.
