Rio Ferdinand tells Jurgen Klopp to make this Liverpool FC signing
Rio Ferdinand suggests that Liverpool FC need to make a move to sign Virgil van Dijk in January
Rio Ferdinand has urged Jurgen Klopp to sign Virgil van Dijk for Liverpool FC in the January transfer window – because he feels that the Reds are lacking leaders on the pitch.
Klopp watched his Liverpool FC side be pegged back and held to a 1-1 draw by Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday evening as the Reds were forced to settle for a point from the Premier League clash.
Liverpool FC were heavily linked with a move to sign Van Dijk in the summer transfer window but a move failed to materialise after the Reds were accused of an alleged illegal approach by the Saints.
The Merseyside outfit subsequently ended up withdrawing their interest in the player and Klopp opted not to strengthen his team in that position.
Liverpool FC are bound to be linked with further signings in the coming weeks as the January transfer window draws ever nearer.
And former Manchester United defender Ferdinand believes that Liverpool could do with a player of Van Dijk’s stature in their squad.
Speaking to BT Sport on Saturday after the game, Ferdinand said: “When Jurgen Klopp’s looking to buy someone – he was in for Virgil van Dijk – and you hope he would have the stature, the personality, the presence, to lead a team.
“I do feel that they’re lacking something like that in the team.
“When things aren’t going their way, you get the vibe that the players are looking around to the bench more than the pitch. I think that’s something they need to change to take this team on.”
Liverpool FC will return to Premier League action on Wednesday night when they travel to Stoke City as they look to return to winning ways.
