Liverpool FC star tipped to eclipse Chelsea legend in the Premier League
Lauren believes that Liverpool FC star Mohamed Salah could eclipse Didier Drogba as one of the Premier League's top African talents
Lauren believes that Mohamed Salah could eclipse Didier Drogba as the best African footballer in the Premier League – although he admits it will be difficult.
The Egypt international has made a brilliant start to life at Liverpool FC since signing for the Reds from Roma in the summer transfer window.
Salah was deemed to be surplus to requirements at Chelsea before being shipped off to Serie A side Roma.
The 25-year-old has made a brilliant start to his career at Liverpool and has formed a potent understanding with the likes of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Philippe Coutinho.
Drogba is widely regarded as one of the greatest African footballers of all time, with the former Ivory Coast striker having written himself into the history books during his two spells at Chelsea.
But former Arsenal defender Lauren reckons that Drobga could be eclipsed by Salah in the Premier League if the forward continues his fine form for Liverpool FC.
Lauren is quoted as saying by Metro: “[Salah] could be [the best] – he’s still young and he’s playing with such a great team in Liverpool.
“He could be, why not? We’ve had some great players like [Tony] Yeboah and [Andre] Ayew. Drogba did a lot.
“To be honest, I have some doubts that he can pass Drogba. He was one of the best African players in the Premier League.
“To pass that is difficult, but we’ll see. Time will tell us, but at the moment I’m sticking with Drogba. I think he’s one of the best African players to have played in the Premier League.”
Salah will be expecting to feature for Liverpool FC when the Reds take on Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Reds are aiming to climb the Premier League table as they look to improve on their fourth-placed finish under Jurgen Klopp last term.
