Dirk Kuyt tells Liverpool FC to sign top 26-year-old next year
Dirk Kuyt admits he would love to see Liverpool FC complete a deal to sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton

Dirk Kuyt has urged Liverpool FC to make a move to sign Virgil van Dijk next year and says he thinks the defender will be a good fit for the Reds.
The Merseyside outfit were heavily linked with a bid to sign the defender in the summer transfer window but a move eventually failed to materialise after Liverpool FC were accused of an alleged illegal approach by Southampton.
The Reds were forced to issue a public statement apologising to the south coast club and withdrawing their interest in the player.
However, as the January transfer window draws nearer, Van Dijk continues to be touted as a possible target for the Reds, either in January or next summer.
And former Liverpool FC star Kuyt has admitted that he would love to see Kuyt move to Anfield because he feels he would fit in well at the club.
Speaking to Sky Sports, Kuyt said: “I know Virgil. I didn’t play with him in the national team but he’s a great player.
“We’ll see how things will go in the winter break or at the end of the season.
“I don’t think it’s strange for me to say he is a player who will suit Liverpool very well. He has the right mentality and he is a great defender.
“He could do a great job at Liverpool but it’s not for me to say if he would be an improvement or not. That’s up to the club.”
Van Dijk came up against Liverpool FC on Saturday as Southampton crashed to a 3-0 defeat by the Reds at Anfield in the Premier League.
Liverpool FC will now switch their attentions back towards Premier League affairs and their crunch clash against Chelsea at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
